Training Director

Lane County

Maya Rios has a passion for helping people heal and grow. As a child, she received help and support from many services and has made it her life’s work to give back to her community.

Maya joined L.E.A.D. as a participant in 2004. Through her experience with the L.E.A.D. program, she co-founded what is now the Youth M.O.V.E. Oregon Drop-In center in Eugene. In 2007, Maya joined Americorps and chose the role of a Peer Helper. Through her job as a Peer Helper, Maya emotionally and physically supported survivors of Hurricane Katrina by helping rebuild houses, doing assessments and receiving crisis calls.

Maya began her tutoring career when an ESL student came to live with her family when she was just five years old. Over the years, Maya has tutored in a variety of subjects including: math, science, English, Spanish, history, political science, and music. She has worked as a mentor through the L.E.A.D. program, Boys and Girls Club, and as a Residential Director at her college.

After many adventures, Maya has returned to Oregon to work for Youth M.O.V.E. Oregon and help grow the L.E.A.D. program. She is excited to come back and contribute to a program that had such an magnificent positive impact on her life.
